Image to 3D on Hugging Face: free Spaces, GPU quotas and what you get
How to turn an image into a 3D model with a Hugging Face Space, the free ZeroGPU quota, the licences that come with each model, and the next steps.

Quick answer
Can you make a 3D model from an image on Hugging Face?
Yes. Hugging Face hosts browser demos, called Spaces, for open image-to-3D models such as TRELLIS and Hunyuan 3D. Upload a picture and download a GLB. The catch is GPU time: free accounts get a few minutes of shared GPU a day, so expect queues, and each model's licence still applies to what you make.
What a Space is
A Hugging Face Space is a small web app that runs a model, usually built with Gradio. For 3D, the popular ones wrap open models: Microsoft's TRELLIS, Tencent's Hunyuan 3D, Stability's Stable Fast 3D and others. You upload an image, wait, and get a preview and a GLB file.
Many are official demos from the model's authors. Others are copies made by the community. Prefer the official one: it is usually the most current.
The GPU quota
Most 3D Spaces run on ZeroGPU, which lends a shared GPU per request. Hugging Face's ZeroGPU documentation gives each account tier a daily quota of GPU time. A free account's quota is a few minutes a day, and a single 3D generation can use a minute or more of it. PRO accounts get several times more and higher queue priority.
In practice: a free account gets a handful of models a day, and busy Spaces make you wait. Duplicating a Space to your own account avoids the queue but means paying for the GPU.
Read the licence of the model, not the Space
The Space is a front end. The model behind it has its own licence, and it covers what you make:
- TRELLIS: MIT, very permissive.
- Hunyuan3D 2.0: Tencent's community licence. Its territory excludes the European Union, the United Kingdom and South Korea (see the licence file). Later Hunyuan versions have their own terms.
- Stability's 3D models: the Stability AI Community Licence, with a revenue threshold for commercial use.
If you plan to sell the result or ship it in a game, check the model card first.
What the GLB usually needs next
A Space hands you the raw output: a dense triangle mesh with a baked texture, often off-centre and at an arbitrary scale. Before it is usable you will probably:
- Recentre it and fix the pivot point.
- Reduce the triangle count or retopologise: decimate vs retopology.
- Convert it to the format your tool wants.
When a hosted app is simpler
Spaces are great for trying a model. For regular work, an app that runs the same open models without a quota or queue saves time. Vi3W runs TRELLIS by default (20 XP a model, free plan included) and Hunyuan 3D on paid plans, then retopologises the mesh and exports GLB, FBX or OBJ. Prices are on the pricing page.
Try it
Open Vi3W and run the same open models without watching a queue.
