Free AI 3D model generators: what 'free' really includes
Credits, export locks, licences and watermarks: what to check in any free AI 3D tier, and exactly what Vi3W's free plan gives you.

Quick answer
What should you check in a free AI 3D model generator?
Check how many generations the free tier allows and whether it resets, whether you can export, in which formats, and at what quality, whether there's a watermark, whether commercial use is permitted, whether you need an account or card, and which models are available. Free tiers differ most on exports and licence terms.
"Free" means different things
Search for a free AI 3D generator and every tool claims to be free. The details differ a lot, and they usually matter at the moment you try to download your model. Here's what to check, followed by exactly what Vi3W's free plan includes so you can compare like for like.
Eight questions for any free tier
- How many generations? A fixed amount once, a monthly allowance, or a daily limit?
- Does it reset? Monthly credits behave very differently from a one-time grant.
- Can you export at all? Some free tiers let you generate and view but not download.
- Which formats? GLB, FBX, OBJ, STL? Do textures come with them?
- Any watermark on the model or textures?
- Commercial use? Read the terms; some free tiers are personal-use only.
- Account or card required? Sign-in is common; a card is a bigger commitment.
- Which models? Free tiers often limit you to faster, lower-cost generation models.
Vi3W's free plan, exactly
From Vi3W's pricing page:
- 100 XP, once. It doesn't reset monthly.
- About three models with the default settings (an image step at about 10 XP plus a 3D step at about 20 XP is roughly 30 XP per model).
- Basic models: Trellis and SAM 3D for 3D, Nano Banana and FLUX 2 Pro for images.
- Two generations at a time.
- No card needed; you sign in with Google.
- Failed generations are refunded: XP is held when a generation starts and returned if it fails.
Exports are glTF/GLB, FBX and OBJ. On commercial use, Vi3W's content policy says you can use the 3D models you generate, including in commercial projects, subject to the law, other people's rights, and any third-party model licence restriction Vi3W tells you about in the product.
What it isn't: unlimited, and it isn't no-sign-up. If you need more, paid plans start at $19 a month for 1,000 XP (about 33 models).
Making a small free allowance count
- Prepare your input well. A clean sketch or photo is the biggest quality lever. How to take a photo that converts well.
- Use the image step as a free-ish checkpoint. In Vi3W, the image step costs less than the 3D step, so fix the design there.
- Pick your best idea first.
Other free routes worth knowing
- CC0 model libraries: Kenney, Poly Haven, Quaternius. Free, unlimited, but not custom. Free 3D models for commercial use.
- Free modelling software: Blender, Tinkercad. Unlimited, but you do the modelling.
- Open-source generators you can run on your own GPU, if you have the hardware and patience.
Download or generate? helps you choose between them for each asset.
Want to try it? Start free with 100 XP: no card, and enough for about three models.
Frequently asked questions
how to generate free 3d models
Use an AI 3D generator's free tier: upload a sketch or photo, or type a prompt, then export the model. Check the tier's limits and licence first. Alternatively, model for free in Blender or Tinkercad, or download CC0 models from libraries such as Kenney or Poly Haven.
