Are AI-generated 3D models allowed on Roblox? What the rules actually say
Yes: Roblox allows AI-generated 3D models. What its rules require: rights, moderation, content maturity, IP-safe prompts, and disclosing in-game AI.

Quick answer
Can you use AI-generated 3D models in a Roblox game?
Yes. Roblox ships its own AI generation tools and doesn't ban AI-made assets. The conditions are the ones that apply to any upload: you must have the rights to it, it must meet Community Standards and your game's content maturity, and you're responsible for third-party AI output. Player-facing AI needs disclosure.
The short answer
Roblox allows AI-generated 3D models, and it builds AI generation into Studio itself. Assistant generates meshes with Roblox's Cube model, and GenerationService lets games generate objects for players. What Roblox cares about is what you upload, not how you made it.
What Roblox requires
You need the rights
Roblox's guidance on protecting IP when using generative AI says it plainly: you are responsible for ensuring you have the rights to anything you upload, whether or not you used AI. In practice:
- don't put brand names, existing characters or real people in prompts unless you hold the rights;
- review outputs. A generator can drift towards something recognisable even without being asked;
- Roblox notes that modifying AI output, and combining it with your own work, can make your creation more protectable.
It must meet Community Standards
Generated content goes through the same moderation as anything hand-made. Roblox's generative AI rules draw a line between its own tools and third-party ones:
- Roblox's APIs (such as GenerationService) moderate inputs and outputs, and users aren't penalised for a violating output produced from a non-violating input.
- Third-party tools (external generators, Vi3W included): you are responsible for the content you deliver, and it must fit Community Standards and your experience's content maturity rating.
Disclose player-facing AI
If players can interact with generative AI in your game (chat, images, 3D generation), you must say so in the Content Maturity questionnaire. Extended, chatbot-style interactions need a Restricted label. This applies to AI in your game, not to assets you generated while building it.
Selling AI-made items
The same rules apply to the Marketplace: rights, moderation and the technical specs. Rigid accessories, for example, must be under 4,000 triangles. See making Roblox UGC with AI. Marketplace policies change, so read the current terms before you plan a release.
What players think
Rules are one thing, and reputation is another. Parts of the Roblox community are wary of what they call "AI slop": unedited, generic output. The assets that get no complaints are the ones that look intentional. That means a consistent style, sensible scale, clean low-poly geometry, and your own edits on top. Use AI to get a first version fast, then make it yours. Whether AI threatens artists is a separate debate, covered in is AI replacing 3D artists?
Generate responsibly
Vi3W outputs plain mesh and texture files, with no scripts or embedded behaviour, from your prompt, photo or sketch. Start from your own sketch for the most original result. Make a model in Vi3W.

Frequently asked questions
AI Created Models
Yes, as long as the model is appropriate and doesn't infringe anyone's rights. Roblox's stated position is that you are responsible for what you upload, whatever tool made it. It has built AI mesh generation into Studio itself. Check outputs against Community Standards, and don't prompt with brand names, existing characters or real people.
